Rutherford College ESOL courses are recognised by The English for Migrants Programme (PELT) and WINZ. Full-time students may be eligible for a STUDENT VISA. 

If you require assistance choosing the correct course to study please contact us to ensure you regsiter in the correct level for your current English ability as refunds are not available after a course has started. Transfers to other levels will be determined on a case-by-case basis and are subject to availability.

Beginner : Adults will be able to communicate intermittently, focussing on immediate needs.Learners have little or no exposure to English. Frequent pauses require effort and concentration of the listener.

Elementary:Adults will be able to interact in a simple way to communicate basic information related to personal details and particular concrete situations. Continuous communication is difficult, limited to familiar structures. Frequent breakdowns in communication occur. 

Pre-intermediate ; Adults will be able to maintain dialogue in English, coping with general meaning in most familiar situations. Has frequent problems in understanding and expression is not able to use complex language. Strong accent may still be present but can be understood most of the time.

Intermediate: Adults will be able to engage in discussion on topics that are familiar, of personal interest or pertinent to everyday life. Use appropriate formality, both face -to-face and on the telephone. Most of discussion is relevant and can be understood. No heavy strain placed in transaction.

Upper Intermediate: Adults will be able to engage in discussion with one or more people in familiar and unfamiliar situations, making clear and relevant contributions that respond to what others say and produce a shared understanding about different topics.
