Free for NZ Residents / Citizens / Partnership Visa of NZ Residents or citizens.
- Students must be committed to attending 80% of classes
- Students must be 16 years or older
- An administration fee of $15 per course applies

Rutherford College ESOL courses are recognised by The English for Migrants Programme (PELT) and WINZ. Full-time students may be eligible for a STUDENT VISA.

| Level | Description |
| Beginners | Learners have little or no exposure to English. Great difficulty understanding spoken or written English. |
| Elementary | Some Basic, often inaccurate communication used, in simple familiar situations only. Often requires assistance and frequently misunderstands. |
| Pre- intermediate | Coping with general meaning only in very familiar situations. Communication breaks down often |
| Intermediate | Coping with general meaning in most situations, but still makes frequent mistakes. Use appropriate formality, both face-to-face and on the telephone. Inaccurate, but increasingly complex language used. |
| Upper- intermediate | Despite occasional errors communicate effectively and confidently in complex and new situations. |
