Course Description

Join us to learn more about:

  • How we connect to Te Tiriti as people from many backgrounds.
  • The political context leading to a declaration in 1835 and a treaty in 1840.
  • What the signatories agreed.
  • A history of colonisation: Crown actions and Māori movements.
  • Matike Mai: a future vision for Aotearoa.
  • What Te Tiriti means today: next steps for individuals and organisations.

This workshop is being run by Tauiwi facilitators from Tangata Tiriti – Treaty People

Course Materials

The course materials are provided by the facilitator. Morning-tea and afternoon tea  are provided by Rutherford Community Education.

We recommend to bring some food to contribute to a shared lunch.

Course Fee Subsidy

This course is subsided by Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) for NZ citizens and permanent migrant adults, their partners on work visas or visitor visas, and refugees. To qualify, registrants should be over the age of 16 years and not currently enrolled in a secondary school. You must provide evidence of NZ citizenship, residency, or refugee status to our staff for sighting purposes.

For Non- Resident students there will be a surcharge of NZD$20.

Please note: All courses need a minimum number to go ahead. If your course does not have enough enrolments, we regret that we will have to cancel and will let you know either by email or text. Courses are usually cancelled, when necessary, 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date.
