Courses held at Selwyn Community Education, Onehunga Adult Learning & Rutherford College Community Education

Tea and coffee will be provided. Bring your lunch. Students will have a homework assignment between the two Saturdays.

Adult learners bring a diverse range of skills, knowledge, cultural backgrounds, literacy and numeracy competence, learning styles and personality types to our classes. Our challenge as tutors is to create a learning environment that meets these needs and extends our learners' abilities.

Join this hands-on course covering creating a learning climate, how adults learn, group interactions, course planning and evaluation - suitable both for those already tutoring adults or planning to start.

By the end of the course you will have:

  • explored how to promote a collaborative, inclusive and supportive teaching and learning environment
  • developed and demonstrated an understanding of how learners learn and how to plan for a range of learning styles
  • considered the 'adult' learner in particular
  • unpacked, practised and demonstrated a lesson planning model
  • explored, practised and demonstrated facilitation skills

Please note: All courses need a minimum number to go ahead. If your course does not have enough enrolments, we regret that we will have to cancel and will let you know either by email or text. Courses are usually cancelled, when necessary, 2-3 working days prior to the scheduled start date.
